Genocide Memorials in 10 districts on Digital map
For the first time in the history of the world, the genocide memorials are being published on a digital map. The Genocide Memorials of the Virtual World is displaying the places of genocide, massacres, mass graves, torture centers and memorial plaques witnessing the brutality at the hands of the Pak aggressors and their accomplices in the liberation war. The Genocide Memorial maps of 10 districts have already been published.
The cover map shows the places of the massacre with a dark red pin, the massacre site with a black pin, the mass grave with a red pin, the torture center with a brown pin and a memorial plaque with a green pin.
With the help of state-of-the-art GPS (Global Positioning System), latitude and longitude are determined by satellite and the memorabilia of 1971 is accurately displayed on the interactive map.
The spots on the map are set up in such an interactive way that anyone can enter the place with one click from the website and view the pictures; Learn more about the incident.
When you click on any pin on the map with digital facility, first the name with the picture of that place comes up. Clicking on the name brings up more pictures and contacts. Each text is in Bangla and English.
As part of a pilot project in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the map was published on the website '1971: Genocide-Torture Archives and Museums' by identifying 634 monuments in 10 districts till last December.
The museum, located in Khulna, is conducting surveys on genocide, mass graves, slaughterhouses and torture centers in 64 districts. Almost all the memorabilia of Khulna division have already been published. There are memorials in Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pabna, Jhenaidah, Chuadanga, Magura, Jessore, Narail and Faridpur. Of the 634 GPS spots identified, 459 were places of genocide, 16 spots of massacres, 91 were mass graves and 108 were torture centers.
In fact, a survey of 26 districts so far has revealed that 11,358 genocides have taken place. There are 2,496 memorials of the genocide. Of these, 848 were mass graves, 654 were slaughterhouses and 996 were torture centers. 48 memorial plaques have been erected on these monuments.
